About the Included 0.8x Focal Reducer

The included 2-element 0.8x Focal Reducer turns the ED80 from a 480mm f/6 telescope into a 384mm f/4.8 wide-field imaging system, letting more light reach your camera sensor for shorter exposures and wider views of large deep-sky targets.

Compared with smaller wide-field telescopes, the 80mm aperture gathers 1.3 times more light than a 70mm, 1.8 times more than a 60mm, and 2.6 times more than a 50mm. To match a 100-second exposure on the ED80, a 50mm takes 256 seconds, a 60mm takes 178 seconds, and a 70mm takes 131 seconds at the same f/ratio.

The reducer has 55mm (+/- 2mm) of back spacing and is threaded for a standard 42mm T-ring, so attaching your camera is easy.
